Month 2 Discoveries

Thursday, February 19, 2009

February 2009: 2 months old

In month 2 we have had some exciting new developments in Bailey's world.
She has discovered her hands, and they are both sneaky and mesmerizing!
She can hold her head up during tummy time, even though it's tricky!
Her vision has improved so now we like to look at pictures and bat at toys!

And even though she refuses to sleep in her crib at the moment, she does find the mobile and the toys very amusing for a little bit... she expresses how pleased she is by kicking frantically.

February 2009: 2 months old

This next series were done by request of my Mom. When Skylar was a baby Candi and Kobi had given her a framed pic of him posed like this and she adored it. So much that she needed one just like it when Bella came around, and we knew it was only a matter of time before she started asking for the Bailey version. Candi and I are pretty certain Bella and Skylar's were done when they were at least a month or two older, but she says we are wrong. Bailey tried, but she still struggles holding that head up while on her tummy. Seems like tricky business for a baby. This is the best of what I like to refer to as the Wobble-Head Collection.

She didn't last for long in this pose, but she was a good sport about it. We will probably try this one again next month. In the large version of these pics you can see how blue her eyes are in real life.

We love our Aunt Candi. She came over today with her fancy SLR camera and took a bunch of awesome photos of Bailey. I'll post a few of my top favorites of each series over the next few days. These are the winners out of the Basket Collection.

Time for Spring!

February 2009: 2 months old

It has been a fun and productive week here at the Dunson household! As a Christmas present to each of the store managers, the GM granted two paid days off to be taken any time in January or February. He was especially nice to schedule John's days off and the comp days all in a row so that he ended up getting not only the weekend of the Super Bowl off, but an actual 6 days stretch of time away from work! That was the best gift he could have given to a new family for sure! We had originally planned to drive down to Austin to visit the family, but it didn't work out for my Dad and Uncle's agendas. Sorry cousins! We really want to come visit you guys so we are still trying to work on it. I HAVE to see Molly while she is in town it's been way too long, so don't let her leave yet! But even though we didn't get a chance to leave Dallas, we still had a really good time relaxing hanging out at home.
We had a few warm breezy days here in Dallas so spring fever hit me hard! Ever since we have lived in this apartment I have either been huge and pregnant, recovering from a c section (takes 6 weeks!), and handling a newborn while my husband has been working long crazy holiday hours in retail mayhem. Needless to say the condition of the house is less than perfect. I have usually managed to keep it picked up, but certain things have remained untouched or out of control. But now I am healed and I had a helper for a week so we cleaned this place from top to bottom. It is sparkly and fresh and every room in the house carries my favorite scent (fresh laundry). All spots in the carpet have been scrubbed, all dishes are done, no dust or smudges or clutter anywhere, every single thing that can be washed has been washed including John's car. We have even finished the nursery and Bailey's bathroom decor... well almost, just a couple small project left, but I'd say it's about 85-90% done. So with our victory of conquering the house we invited the family over for a Super Bowl/ Dinner party and had a lot of fun.
Also with dreams of spring came the overwhelming desire to shop for cute spring baby clothes. Little girls are dangerous to have because they are so much fun to shop for! All of the sweet spring dresses and skirts were too much for me to handle... I may have gone overboard. Ebay can be an addictive place for a stay at home mom, but I did get a steal on all of her cute clothes. What can I say, besides Baby Gap and Gymboree really know what they are doing. She is so spoiled already. She has better, more stylish clothes than either John or I have and her room is the most tricked out room in the house. I can't help it, when you love somebody so much you just want to give them the world. Bailey's follow-up two month appointment was today. She weighed in at 10 pounds 11 ounces. Go Bailey! The doctor is no longer concerned about her ability to gain weight, and I can stop supplementing her LOL. I knew he wouldn't know the difference and that it was just her being sick that last time. This week has also been a lot smoother as far as the colic problems I was experiencing with her previously. She is still crankier in the later half of the day, but not a screaming crying mess so my sanity has returned (I think it checked out for a minute). I have been successful in keeping her awake for longer periods of time. I have not, however, been successful at the crib attempts. We did get the batteries for her mattress, the boom box with soft music and still no luck. I don't know if I need to be more hardcore about it, but I really hate hearing her scream so yeah... that's where we are at with that whole mess. When we finally get her in that crib peacefully we will celebrate.

Love a baby in knit

January 2009: 2 months old

Some of my latest pics of Bailey. She is turning into such a little John, and he couldn't be more pleased with that lol. I am such a sucker for knitted baby clothes. I had no idea until I started buying stuff for her and found myself being ridiculously drawn to them. It started with a winter knit cardigan, then booties, then sweaters and now the sweetest little Gymboree sleepers. The previous post she has on the cream one but my favorite is this little blue one. Soon I will be advancing my love for knitted baby items to baby cocoons and babylegs, google their images if you aren't familiar with these products because they are soooo cute!

Attempt Number 1

January 2009: 2 months old

Today I decided to try out the crib thing with Bailey during nap time now that she seems to be feeling better from her series of immunization shots. I documented the event. Ahhh sleeping baby, so peaceful in her slumber.

Things seemed to be going remarkably well. Almost time to celebrate... but wait perhaps things are going too well.

Oh no, here it comes. The baby stirs... a long happy stretch and...

The final result each time until we became totally distrusting of Momma and refused to fall asleep for our afternoon nap.

Mission: FAILED

We will keep working on it.

January 2009: 2 months old

YAY found my memory card reader's cable so I got a chance to upload all of the pics from our real camera. It is amazing how much she has changed in appearance in these two months! I can hardly believe my eyes!

This is a video of her playing with her fish. I am sure it's probably not exciting for most, but I am a proud Momma so I am sharing it. She is totally trying to get that fish, she just doesn't have a ton of coordination yet... it'll come Bailey, be patient! hehe be sure to notice her onesie LOL.

These are pics of yesterday morning after the ambush at the Dr. appoinment :o) She just looked so sweet in her little pj's and her messy hair!
And now for some old ones that I couldn't post until just now! Look how much she has changed! These pics of her in the red dress were taken on the day we got to bring her home from the hospital!of course I have to post some cuties of her first time meeting Bella, Skylar and Alyssa!hehe sorry they are late, but better late than never! I thought the are too cute so I had to share them!

two months already... really?

January 2009: 2 months old

Bailey has had a hard run these last couple of weeks. Her cold lasted about a week, which like I said every time she coughed (which was after every meal) she would eject her food. Fortunately her congestion is gone and her food is now staying down. Unfortunately this last week she has become colicky for reasons unknown to me. Starts around 3 and lasts til around midnightish/3 am. The later part of the evening is the worst of it, by the time John comes home from work she is a total mess. And that brings us to today, her two month well baby check up.
They decided to give her a series of immunization shots, a total of 6 immunizations in the form of three shots and an oral dose. She was ambushed with needles, which for obvious reasons upset her greatly for about ten minutes. Then the Dr. says she will probably run a fever from them for the next few days and be cranky for the rest of the week... nice. He decided that she hasn't gained enough weight in the last two weeks and that it must be because I am not producing enough milk and not from her throwing up for a solid week, so therefore I must supplement because that is the reason for her crankiness in the evenings. On top of that he thinks I should be keeping her awake at all costs for two hours at a time between sleeping periods LOL (guess I am not supposed to sleep at all anymore in his head). In his opinion these are the two reasons for her colicky fits. I am also supposed to lay her down in her crib awake let her cry for 10 minutes, pick her up to calm her, then repeat until she passes out I guess from emotional distress or something. I have decided to listen to part of the advice and the other part I have decided that he may be full of it because since he is a doctor I have my doubts on the amount of time he has actually spent staying at home taking care of a newborn.
I do think that he is right about part of her fussiness lately is probably her having to much energy, but I don't know about you for me it's hard to entertain a two month old baby for any longer than an hour (realistically 30-45 min) without her becoming overstimulated and totally cranky... so yeah if she wants to sleep I am letting her. If you know of a way to keep a two month old baby awake and happy for long periods of time I'd be happy to listen to suggestions with the exception of introducing the pacifier, not trying that until she is at least 3 months old if she still acts like she needs it. As of now she has a crib toy that entertains her, she loves to listen to me talk, and she likes it when I show her highly contrasted visually stimulating things, but I can only hold her interest for a little while before she decides she has had enough. I have read that if a baby gets suddenly colicky to check your diet because they may have a hard time digesting certain things like dairy. I drink at least 2 gallons of milk a week on my own so that might be part of the problem. So I will take one for the team and switch to soy.
The crib thing we will have to tackle during day time naps next week after the shots have healed. Wish us luck! If I have been screamed at all day and the only way I can go to bed for the night is rocking her for a little bit in my chair, then I am going to do what I can to get my own sleep. Momma has to recharge her batteries too! I have no plans of supplementing her on formula, even though the Dr. suggested it. She threw up for a solid week, I am positive that is the only reason for her slow weight gain in these last two weeks. If there is still cause for concern on the follow up appointment in two weeks, then I will do as he asks. Honestly, I was surprised she even gained 4 ounces with all that spitting up she was doing.
Anyway in honor of the historical moment in time that happened today we dressed Bailey in her patriotic bests and I must say she rocked the outfit. Check out those chubby cheeks of hers, I always wanna squish them. We did watch the 2009 Presidential Inauguration today as a family, but she slept through most of it, politics aren't really her thing. The important thing is, is that she can technically say (when she can talk) that she witnessed the first black president being sworn in since in her future she will probably be reading about it in her history books... weird, but fun to think about. These photos are my official documentation of her being present for this event. These pics were taken with my cell since I can't find the cable for my real camera to the computer, so this will have to do. Some may be blurry because she was kicking and swinging her arms about in a happy joyous sort of manner, she loves that fish crib toy! It lights up and plays a fun little jingle whenever you hit is, so what's not to love about that? Despite her hard day she was actually in the best mood that I have seen her in, in two weeks.

We get to visit Aunt Candi, Uncle Kobi, Bella and Skylar tomorrow, hopefully she won't be feeling badly due to her shots.
