Hooray For Bonuses!!

Saturday, May 9, 2009

YAY John got his annual bonus which means all lines of credit have been officially paid off (except some medical bills and a little left on John's car). We can start house hunting in 30-45 days, and hopefully have our first home this year!! He also decided to spoil me by buying me the digital SLR I wanted so badly as a first anniversary and first Mother's Day gift. So sweet!! I was so excited I immediately started photographing our messy apartment LOL. Johnny also got himself a couple new video games, so no worries he wasn't left out, and miss Bailey will be getting her very own exersaucer and a much needed stroller this month.

These are my practice shots from test driving my camera... I love it already!!! Still trying to figure out the lenses though. It's that Canon rebel camera which came with an 18-55mm lens and then Best Buy was doing some special promotion for Mother's Day so we got an extra one that is 55-250 mm lens. I don't exactly know what the mm means yet as far as picture taking goes. Jennifer?

Yeah! I love your pictures!! These cameras are awesome.

I'm definitely not an expert with the lenses. Our new lens is 18-270mm, so I pretty much keep it on all the time. If you're going to be somewhere that you'll want to zoom in a lot (like sports, zoos animals, bugs or baby toe close ups, etc) then definitely have the 55-250 lens with you.
The smaller mm lens will give you a wider angle of view- so you can "fit more" in the pic.

Canon had a class down hear for the Rebel series a while back. It was pretty cool- maybe they have them in the Dallas area?
I'd like to take more photo classes! So fun :)

Thanks for that! Candi is coming over tomorrow to teach me what she knows. I definitely want to take a class sometime to get a better understanding of lenses and filters.

The closest I have ever come to a photography class was in 9th grade when I did yearbook they taught us about adding visual interest to photographs by off centering your subject or photographing repeating objects or contrasting your subject... but that was about it and we only had film cameras to practice on because it was before digital so I never really had any good shots since I couldn't see what I was doing.

Now that we have a cool camera John has taken an interest in it too since the camera itself is pretty easy to navigate. So we'll have to take one together for fun!
